This Website

Status: In Progress

This website is the result of a little under a week of effort,
including the shenanigans that come with an average college weekend. The goal was to get the site up and populated
with some shiny things for people while still being reasonably social.

Starting on Thursday, I had a lot of ideas that I thought would be really cool for the site considering the Control FBC theme,
but after spending about a day and a half on what I found to be a dead end I decided to follow a little saying
I know: “make it exist first, make it good later”.
Of course another saying is “nothing is as permanent as a temporary solution”,
but I’ll be disappointed in myself if the latter wins out this time.

After getting the ideas set I had Claude help me with some image editing
(a skill I hope to have in my bag later), and with animating the splash screen image to fade into the main menu.
The three menu images are screenshots from the collectibles menu of Control,
edited by Claude for style consistency and positioned neatly by yours truly.
I thought for a while about how I’d organize the content behind each folder,
but the theme leaves one option incredibly obvious while keeping things simple, which is good given the overall goal.
A simple, but effective method of styling my page links to be vertically centered items of a growing list,
wrapped in a border styled to our theme. Now onto populating which means box write-ups over the weekend.
With respect to remaining reasonably social, I worked on the UltraTech box while playing Mario Party with my friends.
Check out the write-up under research and records.

After taking the weekend (and Monday, not a lot of work happened Sunday) to do boxes and writeups,
Tuesday morning came with dwindling time to my class.
I returned to Claude with a request to format my writeups while keeping them spoiler free,
and to create sub menu pages for each category under the main three folders from the main pages
I made with some placeholder content. Then I transferred the site files over to my Pi 5,
bought the domain name, set a route for the tunnel, and loaded the site for the first time.
I troubleshooted some caching issues, fixed a small JS bug with the splash screen,
and the site today is what you see(and yes, I made it to class).

So, why the Control theme? I wish I could give a more interesting answer,
but it’s really just that I’m a gamer who’s spent a lot of time with the game recently.
When thinking of a theme my mind immediately went to all of the computers around the Oldest House,
a place where sufficiently as advanced technology is fried when walking through the doors.
computers using CRT monitors and CRT TVs are the only kind present in the game for this reason.
The world of Control had me gripped from the first play through,
and coming just off the second everything was fresh in my mind. It felt like a natural choice.

All being said, I feel this was a good start to something that will be even better later.
I already have a couple ideas for updates in mind,
and if you revisit the site sometime in the future I hope you appreciate them.
